FAQs

What does an appointment and follow look like?

The initial appointment is a detailed look into your past medical history and current concerns. We will have a long discussion about when things began, what has helped, what hasn’t, what YOU think could be going on, etc. We will then take all of this information and formulate a plan for you and your personal concerns. We discuss what things could be going on, how we are going to narrow down the diagnosis and what possible treatment could look like. At the first visit, we often order lab testing.

Follow up visits are 2-4weeks after any testing, medication, supplement or lifestyle change that is made. Once we find the best formula for you and you are stable on that regiment, visits are ideally only 1-2 times per year or when something changes for you.

All appointments consist of education. It is important that you have the most accurate information to make the best decisions for yourself and your health.

Do you prescribe hormones?

Yes- if and when it is appropriate. We will always have a detailed conversation about any intervention and always discuss the risks vs the benefits as well as indications or contraindications. If hormones are not an option, we can discuss supplements, nutrition and lifestyle interventions to maximize your health, quality of life and longevity.

What is a DO?

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, use a unique whole-person approach to help prevent and treat illness and injury.

DOs are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. Emphasizing a whole-person approach to treatment and care, DOs are trained to listen and partner with their patients to help them get healthy and stay well.

While primary care remains a strong focus for the osteopathic profession, DOs practice in all medical specialties. During medical school, they receive special training in the musculoskeletal system, your body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. This advanced training provides DOs with a keen understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others. By combining this knowledge with the latest advances in medical technology, they offer patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine.

What is Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy?

Osteopathic medicine helps relieve suffering and restore optimal body function by combining a physician’s knowledge of internal medicine with hands-on treatments to align the body correctly and activate the innate healing forces within each person.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a set of hands-on techniques used by osteopathic physicians (DOs) to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, a DO moves a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

When appropriate, OMT can complement, and even replace, drugs or surgery. In this way, DOs bring an important dimension to standard medical care.

What is Biodynamic Osteopathy?

Biodynamic osteopathy treats the whole person–body, mind and spirit–in a fully integrated way to activate the healing process. The health transformations people have achieved using this approach have been nothing short of inspiring! Treatments are gentle and relaxing. In most cases, you will lie down on a treatment table, fully clothed, and relax as Dr. Michopoulos moves and adjusts your body–some patients even fall asleep!
